Stefanie McKnight-Owner

Stefanie is the owner of Purple Door Preschool! She enjoyed teaching preschool age students in her home for seven years so much that she decided to open Purple Door in Wingfield in 2015 so she could share her ideas and love with even more children! She then opened Purple Door Midtown in 2022 and D'Andrea in 2023.  Stefanie has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada. She has worked with youth for over 30 years in many different settings. She was a Youth Counselor on board cruise ships and she worked with children at the Child and Family Research Center at the University of Nevada. She was the Leadership and Developmental Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and a Site Supervisor for the City of Reno's Summer Discovery programs. She has also been a Nanny, and even a children's Gymnastic Coach. She was also the former owner of Celebrations!-a children's birthday party and play place and also the former owner of an overnight summer camp, called Camp Star Bound, that she ran with her brother and a friend for five years.  Most importantly, Stefanie is a proud mother of three teenagers, Quinn, Mia and Kai.

What Makes Purple Door Unique-

Purple Door is not a “day care” but a true school. We do not take infants and toddlers, just potty trained, preschool age students from 3-5 years old.

Purple Door is unlike any preschool in the Reno/Sparks area.  In small groups of 11 students and two teachers (smallest ration in town!), children rotate around to twelve unique rooms throughout the day.  Some of these rooms include Engineering, Mechanics, the Science Lab, the Art Studio, Get Moving, the Classroom, the Library and many more!  You have to see it to appreciate it!  So please stop by anytime to see us in action-you do not need to schedule a tour!

Purple Door is also a mixed age school, we don’t separate children by age-you’re not usually born into a litter-you are born into mixed age households and you learn so much from each because of this-this is why we find it so important and fullfilling to have mixed age classes at Purple Door.
